Kindig CF1 Roadster #005 at Kissimmee Mecum Auction
Going over the block on Saturday, January 13th see LOT S240 for our #005 CF1 Roadster at the 2024 Kissimmee Florida Mecum Auction!
Custom built by Kindig-it Design and delivered in March of 2023, the #005 Kindig-it Designs CF1 Roadster is a heavily reimagined concept of the original Chevrolet Corvette. The custom carbon fiber body is finished in Cha-Ching Silver and is powered by a Lingenfelter LS 652 HP V-8 engine with an automatic transmission. Fitted with a custom, one-piece rounded windshield, it was shown by Dave Kindig at various prestigious shows and took the John D’Agostino Award of Excellence at SEMA 2022.
The interior features Auburn Red leather bucket seats with matching door panels; to maneuver the car, drivers grip a custom, two-spoke flat-bottomed steering wheel on a tilt column. Vintage Air is definitely a step up from 1953, keeping the interior cool. Rounding out the package, full carpeting, a refreshed dashboard with custom instruments and air vents further modernize an otherwise fabulous original style. The V-8 engine is fashioned to look like it came from bygone years and is fitted with various polished and painted components, including Auburn Red finned valve covers with logos. The custom five-spoke polished wheels are set around 4-wheel disc brakes with red calipers and are detailed with matte-finished knock-off-style centers. Chrome exhaust tips ease out of the rear tail panel as the original Corvette design called for, backed with Borla mufflers for a spectacular soundtrack.
Dave Kindig, the founder of Kindig-it Design, is well known for his interest in the original 1953-1955 Chevrolet Corvettes but was also sensitive to the car’s inherent shortcomings like power, handling and interior space. His idea was to create a car that solved those riddles while perhaps building on the overall styling and design, a modern interpretation of the original. To accommodate this, Kindig-It would shorten the nose and increase the interior space by about 4 inches while maintaining the original wheelbase, an interesting balancing act that caught the attention of the TV show Bitchin’ Rides. Dave wanted people of varying heights and sizes to be able to enjoy the CF1 Custom Roadster. The floor pans were positioned lower than the original Corvette and a Roadster Shop chassis was employed to suspend the engine, transmission, suspension and so on.
